The following scholarships are available from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and its affiliates. Opening dates or references to websites where applicants can follow developments will be included in this article where appropriate for scholarships that are not currently accepting new applications. ASIM Degree Mobility Scholarships

ASIM, a group of four colleges from South Africa, Malawi, Tanzania, Nigeria, and England, is offering this scholarship. It runs under the Grant on Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme of the European Union Commission and aims to develop talent in the infrastructure industry.

Only graduate and doctoral students are supported by the award. The candidates for the following degrees must be enrolled: Master of Civil Engineering, Master of Construction Management, Master of Sustainable Urban Planning and Development, Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy in Construction Management.

Scholarship recipients are eligible for a subsistence allowance under this program, which is worth €600 for Masters degrees and €900 for Doctorates. Additionally, they earn €3,500 for master’s degrees and €4,000 for doctorates in tuition costs. Together with helping with tuition, the award also pays for travel and visa fees in accordance with the scholarship recipient’s travel budget.

Ruth First Education Trust Scholarship

It is made available to South African students enrolling in a one-year teaching course at Durham University in the academic year 2023–2024 that will result in the award of a Master’s degree by the Ruth First Educational Trust and Durham University.

Candidates must show leadership and an active commitment to causes like environmental sustainability, youth or educational initiatives, charitable organizations, health or AIDS awareness campaigns, student welfare or guidance, the defense of human rights, the advancement of equal opportunities, and rural or urban community development. If one has a paid job that compels them to work in these environments, they should show leadership and dedication that go above and beyond the duties of the position.

A 12-month living allowance, free lodging, and meals are provided to selected pupils at St. Chad’s College. The allowance and housing costs are around £530 and £525 per month, respectively, in 2023. Upon arriving in the UK, the chosen scholar will also get a settling-in stipend. The Fund will also pay for other travel-related expenses and the application fee for a Tier 4 UK VISA.

Margaret McNamara Education Grants 2023

The Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG) is a nonprofit organization that funds the education of outstanding, self-identifying women enrolling in particular colleges in South Africa, the US, and Canada who are at least 25 years old.

The funding assists the women listed here who are registered at UJ and are from middle-income countries (for candidates applying for UJ). It includes all subject areas for Certificate, Undergraduate, Graduate, or Post-Doctorate degrees. The program offers up to $7,000 in money, though actual amounts may differ based on the funding’s availability.

The application period will run from May 15 through September 14, 2023. Candidates who are interested can read the FAQs and email southafrica@mmeg.org with any questions.

4. Southern African Development Community (SADC) Annual Scholarships

The SADC region’s historical, economic, and political development is the focus of the program, which is supported by SADC. Successful applicants from SADC nations are given a total of 5 scholarships each year. Applicants must be graduate students in social science who want to perform doctorate or post-doctoral research.

For the Master’s program, male applicants must be 30 years old or younger, while female applicants must be 35 years old or younger. Male applicants for the doctoral program must be 35 years old or younger, while female applicants must be 40 years old or younger.

The scholarship, which in 2022 had a value of R300,000, paid for school expenses as well as travel, lodging, and health insurance. R15,000 is added to it for necessary expenses. The Orange Knowledge Programme Scholarship

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides fully-funded scholarships to help students who are enrolled in short courses or Master’s degree programs with a focus on sexual and reproductive health, security and rule of law, food and nutrition security, or water management. In addition, they must work in the priority fields, reside in one of the eligible nations, including South Africa, and be able to adequately justify their candidacy.

For courses beginning between 24 July 2023 and 31 January 2024, there are two waves of applications available between 8 February and 30 March, and between 28 June and 5 September for courses beginning after 1 February 2024.

Germany: Post-Doctoral Research Stay for Academics and Scientists from Universities

Via fully-funded short-term study stays in Germany, this initiative gives academics the chance to network with one another and share experiences. It is available to professors at universities, well-known academics, and researchers with doctorates who occupy positions at organizations in their native nations.

Qualified candidates are entitled to monthly salaries of 2,150 euros for professors and 2,000 euros for assistant professors, assistant instructors, and lecturers. Along with travel expenses, it also includes carbon offsets.

China: Master’s: Renmin University of China – Master of Contemporary Chinese Studies Scholarship

The complete cost of tuition, housing, health insurance, and a monthly stipend are all covered by this scholarship, which supports students who want to study in China. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate. Undergraduate students must be 30 years of age or younger, and master’s students must be 35 years of age or younger, in order to be eligible. In addition, they must be in excellent health and have no prior convictions.

Fulbright South African Research Scholar Program+

It enables students to spend up to four months at Emory, where they are sponsored by appropriate departments and programs, and is funded by the Halle Institute for Global Research at Emory. The following is covered by the scholarships:

Candidates must explain in their application how they intend to share their research and instruction with academics and students at Emory University as well as at their home institution. Also, they need to demonstrate how the semester will promote disciplinary, transdisciplinary, and/or multidisciplinary research.
