The Embassy is responsible for representing and promoting Swedish interests in Tanzania and has approximately 40 employees. The overall tasks of the Embassy include supporting business and trade, development cooperation as well as consular and visa services.

The 2020–2024 Swedish–Tanzanian development cooperation strategy is centered on four results areas, i.e.

Program Manager – Social Protection

We are looking for applicants for the job of Program Manager – Social Protection who are appropriately qualified. You will work closely with coworkers to accomplish the overarching goal of Swedish development assistance, which is to assist oppressed and impoverished people in Tanzania in improving their living situations. We work to encourage change by viewing poverty holistically and from multiple angles. The foundation of our strategy also includes close coordination and follow-up with partner organizations.

You also need to have the ability to lead yourself by self-sustaining. Taking initiatives and pushing issues forward. To succeed in this role, you should have the ability to communicate effectively. Finally, it is important to be flexible; solution-oriented and capable of handling the unpredictable.

Duties and responsibilities:

The main responsibilities for this position involves following up on the Productive Social Protection Programme (PSSN-II), which is a nationwide program implemented by Tanzania Social Acton Fund (TASAF). Sweden is one of the largest contributing partners to PSSN II. In addition to bilateral funding, the Embassy oversees delegated funds from European Union in Tanzania to PSSN II. This entails:

• Close collaboration with TASAF to monitor the progress of agreed-upon actions and plans for program components, strengthening the program’s overall execution while paying particular attention to the gender action plan or community participation.

• Assist Swedish embassies in East Africa and Southern Africa with social protection programs by providing advisory support

• In collaboration with Sida’s informal network for social protection, contribute to internal learning and capacity building on social protection inside the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

• Assist Swedish embassies in Africa with social protection programs with advising support. This could involve assistance and counsel throughout the full strategy and contribution management process, such as during the review of new initiatives and during follow-up and evaluation discussions.

· Contribute to the overall tasks of the Embassy as a productive team member.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• A graduate degree in a related field, such as development studies, social science, or economics.

• A minimum of three years of relevant experience working with social protection systems.

• Outstanding spoken and written English proficiency. Swedish and Swahili fluency is an asset.

Merits:

• Understanding of Tanzanian policymaking, preferably with regard to social protection problems.

• Information regarding social protection initiatives in Tanzania or other African nations. experience working for an international organization or in international development cooperation

• Information on the body of studies, including data showing how social protection programs for Sub-Saharan Africa have affected the region.

• Awareness of gender equality and mainstreaming.

• Working knowledge-sharing, learning, and capacity-building initiatives internally.
