Mercedes-Benz is funding a global fellowship that will provide training and scholarships to thousands of young people from around the world to implement their projects in the areas of environmental sustainability and decarbonization. To provide the seed money for the fellowship, Mercedes-Benz auctioned the world’s most valuable car, a 1955 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, for a record price of €135 million.

About the Mercedes-Benz fellowship

Mercedes-Benz will serve as the program’s title sponsor in addition to providing annual funding for the program through donations. The idea for beVisioneers was created by the German nonprofit The DO School Fellowships, which is now putting it into practice.

Following a first call for fellow applications in January 2023, beVisioneers will be launched in June 2023 with an initial cohort of fellows from three regions: India, South Africa and some European countries (Germany, Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, UK). Development and implementation of sustainability projects

BeVisioneers will expand in the upcoming years to support up to 1,000 young people annually. The beVisioneers fellows will be young innovators with great ideas for sustainable enterprises, ranging in age from 16 to 28. They will be chosen by The DO School and have a variety of backgrounds. Applicants must submit a workable project concept that has the potential to have a measurable positive impact on the environment and, preferably, on the applicant’s community in order to be chosen for the program.

The fellows will get a complete 12-month intense training and skills development program from DO School professionals with a focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. The fellows will also be paired with a personal mentor over this 12-month hybrid learning period, and experts chosen by The DO School will share their knowledge and expertise in one-on-one or group meetings. The fellowship offers access to project financing as well as, if necessary, a financial stipend.

After the first year, mentoring and professional assistance will be provided to the fellows as part of their ongoing project and leadership development. BeVisioneers’ long-term objective is to create a diverse and productive worldwide community of fellows, mentors, and experts who collaborate closely to bring about positive environmental change.

Mercedes-Benz improved its corporate citizenship plan in 2022 and created a comprehensive strategy based on its core values. Through education, the beVisioneers fellowship program will support sustainability and social cohesion, reflecting aspects of Mercedes-corporate Benz’s citizenship policy.

Seed capital from auction of 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé

One of the two extremely rare 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupés from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Collection was sold by auction by Mercedes-Benz to a private collector for €135 million in May 2022. The sale of the sports car was decided upon for very good reasons—to aid a worthy cause. The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, which bears Rudolf Uhlenhaut’s name as both its designer and principal engineer, is hailed as one of the world’s most excellent examples of automobile construction and design.
