JOB DETAILS:

Main job purpose

Assuring adherence to ekaterraโ€™s Code of Business Principles (the Code/COPB) and Code Policies is the responsibility of the business integrity officer. They are also in charge of creating local due diligence protocols and other business controls with the goal of establishing a compliance culture. The Business Integrity Officer is in charge of ensuring that the Code is effectively enforced amongst ekaterra Tea Tanzania (eTT) employees and pertinent third parties. He or she will assist the Business Integrity Committees in eTT and act as the visible point of contact for the escalation of issues relating to the Code inside eTT.

In collaboration with subject matter experts and in accordance with the global ekaterra Roadmap for Business Integrity, the Business Integrity Officer eTT must exhibit the judgment, motivation, and influence necessary to deploy the ekaterra Business Integrity programme across eTT for the best results. In order to roll out the ekaterra Business Integrity Programme across eTTโ€™s tea estates, the Business Integrity (BI) Officer eTT will work with the BI Officer โ€“ Plantations. (Opportunities )

Key Accountabilities
The key accountabilities of the Business Integrity Officer eTT are as follows:

PREVENTION

  1. Education and Awareness:

โ€ข Programs for global education and awareness, tracking of eTT completion rates

โ€ข Where necessary, training for specific eTT employees or functional groups

โ€ข Processes for leaving and onboarding new employees

โ€ข Annual statements

2. Retains knowledge of best practices and appropriate local compliance laws and regulations.

3. Implements regional controls and procedures to address important regional compliance areas

4. Upholds COBP and other corporate rules between eTT staff and its clients, suppliers, and contractors.

DETECTION

  1. Promoting the Code and Reporting channels:

โ€ข Using town hall meetings and leadership team interactions, manage local Code and compliance engagements within the eTT.

โ€ข Ensure that every reporting option is explained in detail.

โ€ข Check the availability of the Business Integrity hotline (e.g. via freephone numbers).

6. Code compliance and (business) risk identification and assessment:

โ€ข Examine and keep track of eTTโ€™s external concerns and advancements, then report to the General Counsel. (Opportunities )

โ€ข Continue to follow local Code compliance standards and practices.

โ€ข Talk to high-risk outside parties.

โ€ข Work with (local) procurement to make sure that third parties adhere to pertinent policies and standards.

โ€ข Coordinate the Code Compliance Self-Assessment and corrective action programs for eTT.

RESPONSE

7. Code case handling and Investigations (breaches):

โ€ข Assign the eTT Business Integrity Committee full responsibility for handling all Code investigations, from developing the investigation plan to proposing sanctions and concluding. When it comes to situations handled by the Plantations Business Integrity Committee, escalation to and help from the General Counsel Compliance are provided as needed. (Opportunities )

โ€ข Examine and resolve every matter in accordance with the established international standards.

โ€ข Recording process and control failures and reporting them to functional owners for correction.

โ€ข Monitoring and reporting on process enhancements.

โ€ข Ensure that the Business Integrity reporting system receives high-quality data input.

โ€ข Giving the General Counsel โ€“ Plantations an update on Code case statistics.

โ€ข Notifying any high-risk, reportable, and/or WL2+ matters to the General Counsel โ€“ Plantations as soon as they occur.

8. Incident response

โ€ข Ensure that compliance incidents are classified and reviewed properly.

โ€ข The creation of position papers in response to any issues with (Code) compliance that may have arisen.

GOVERNANCE

9. Additional Code Committee Support:

โ€ข Code Business Partner to the General Counsel โ€“ Plantations and the Country General Manager eTT.

โ€ข Provide agendas, reports, minutes, and follow-up for the Business Integrity Committees in eTT.

10. Organisation

โ€ข Point of contact for any eTT questions about the Code.

Taking Responsibility for Legal Issues
The Business Integrity Officer eTT may occasionally be requested to perform legal tasks, such as but not limited to giving legal advice and handling litigation on an as-needed basis.

Experience required

โ€ข The candidate should have a law degree (LLB Degree) and 2-3 years of experience after graduation, out of which 1-2 years should be spent working in a compliance-related capacity.

โ€ข Dial the Bar (Member of Tanganyika Law Society & have a current practicing certificate)

โ€ข The applicant must be well-versed in the pertinent underlying legal frameworks, compliance, risk, and corporate integrity problems. Areas of expertise will be developed through training and support.

โ€ข For this position, itโ€™s crucial to have the capacity to manage sensitive and complex investigations as well as the ability to influence important players and act as a change agent.
