New Vacancies at UN Women| Job in Tanzania

Background

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), founded on the vision of equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter, works to end discrimination against women and girls, empower women, and achieve equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries in development, human rights, humanitarian action, peace, and security.

Through its programs and projects, UN Women supports the exchange of best practices, promotes womenโ€™s rights and gender equality in all spheres of life, and offers technical help to national partners in the execution of current international and national commitments to these issues. The Beijing Platform for Action and the Sustainable Development Goals will be fully and effectively implemented in 2021 thanks to UN Womenโ€™s convening of the Generation Equality Forum in collaboration with the governments of France and Mexico.

The Generation Equality Forum is wholly integrated into UN Womenโ€™s Strategic Plan and seeks to hasten the accomplishment of the objectives set forth in it. The โ€œCommon Agendaโ€ of the Secretary-General also acknowledges the Generation Equality Forum as a crucial project supporting UN system-wide frameworks to assess and build on international commitments to gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. A number of strong policy, program, financial, and advocacy pledges were made as a result of the 2021 Generation Equality Forum, which served as a catalyst for accelerating the realization of gender equality.

The United Republic of Tanzania (U.R.T.) approved the theme area on Economic Justice and Rights as a means of achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, making it one of the participating states. In order to promote the execution of Tanzaniaโ€™s promises and to boost investments in the establishment of quality care employment, a National Advisory Committee was established in the United Republic of Tanzania in 2021.

To reduce the number of women and girls living in poverty by the year 2026, it is necessary to increase decent work, increase womenโ€™s access to and control over land and other productive resources, and establish and put into action economic plans, budget changes, and stimulus programs. The Generation Equality Multi-Stakeholder Leadership Group, established to assist in implementing the Generation Equality Forum agenda, recently welcomed Tanzania as a member, joining seven other UN Member States. The President of Tanzania was invited in October 2022 to cohost the Generation Equality Forum Mid-Point Summit, which will take place in September 2023 with the UN General Assembly.

The announcement comes after Tanzania committed to being one of the global leaders of the Generation Equality Forum Action Coalition on Economic Justice and Rights in 2021, as well as following a number of significant national accomplishments in the last year that have advanced womenโ€™s economic rights and empowerment. To assist the URT in its role as co-host of the GEF mid-point and many other meetings/tasks running up to the GEF Summit in 2023, UN Women is seeking the services of a Senior GEF Coordination Consultant.
