EGPAF Tanzania: The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is a global nonprofit organization that works to prevent pediatric HIV infection and to eradicate pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. In Tanzania, EGPAF works in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children to provide comprehensive and integrated HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment services for women, children, and families. Their programs focus on maternal and child health, HIV testing and counseling, antiretroviral therapy, and community mobilization and education. They also work to improve the quality of care and support for people living with HIV and to reduce HIV-related stigma and discrimination.

How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?

A person with a high level of commitment, self-motivation, and result-orientedness is the Technical Officer TB Services (TO-TB). To ensure efficient and long-lasting implementation, he or she will oversee and manage the provision of TB and TB/HIV services throughout the region. In order to ensure high quality and integrated TB and TB/HIV collaborative activities across the supported councils and facilities, s/he will provide regional level technical assistance, mentorship, and supervision of the supported TB and TB collaborative activities. This includes designing and supporting the implementation of innovative approaches.

As a member of the Regional Acceleration Strategy team, s/he will make sure that there is good communication between different technical officers while offering direction and technical support to RTLCs and DTLCs in accordance with Tanzanian government (NTLP) criteria. In their various regions, the TO-TB shall take the lead on the documenting and sharing of best practices in TB and TB/HIV collaboration initiatives. With a dotted reporting line for technical oversight to the Senior Technical Advisor TB Services, the TO-TB will report to the Senior Strategic Results Manager โ€“ RAS.

What can you anticipate in this capacity, given that no two days at EGPAF are the same?

  • Directing and organizing regional and council-level TB and TB/HIV collaboration efforts, including planning, execution, monitoring, documentation, and reporting
  • Increase HCPsโ€™ ability to better identify cases of TB, including through TB screening, linkage to diagnosis, and treatment
  • Help councils strengthen the hub-and-spoke paradigm for diagnosing tuberculosis by encouraging the use of GeneXpert and LED microscopy. (EGPAF Tanzania )
  • Facilities that support the development of client-centered service delivery methods, such as community contact tracing
  • Supporting infrastructure to improve pediatric TB case detection and treatment.
  • Encourage the delivery of high-quality TB testing and TB preventive treatment (TPT) services
  • Assisting councils in providing effective MDR-TB services

To be successful, you will have:

  • having a relevant national certification and a degree or advanced diploma in medicine, nursing, or a similar profession
  • An added benefit is having a masterโ€™s degree in public health or a similar profession.
  • Working knowledge of council and regional health management teams (RHMTs &CHMTs)
  • 2 years or more working in public health initiatives or services
  • TB and TB/HIV services implementation and management experience of at least three years
  • proficiency in report writing, best practices, and lessons learnt

Bonus points if you have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
  • Knowledge of the internet and basic computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • The capacity to work under time constraints and pressure

In 2003, Tanzania received funding from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), which later opened a local office there in 2004.

Since then, the EGPAF has broadened its focus to include supporting high-quality integrated HIV, GBV, TB, and family planning services in the supported regions in close partnership and collaboration with the Presidentโ€™s Office, Regional Administration, and Local Government, as well as the Ministry of Health Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children. The U.S. Agency for International Development recently awarded the EGPAF consortium, which included consortium partners Amref Health Tanzania, Engender Health, D-tree International, and Matchboxology. Tanzania Afya/USAID In order to address gaps in the delivery of HIV, TB, and Family Planning (FP) services, Yangu Northern is built on client-centered approaches. At the same time, local stakeholdersโ€™ capacity is constantly being built and transferred for sustainable and country-led ownership.

In the initial years of the project, USAID Afya Yangu Northern will concentrate heavily on direct service delivery throughout all regions, making sure that gaps in epidemic management are identified and specific solutions are created to address the needs of vulnerable communities.
