The University of Dar es Salaamโ€™s (UDSM) Center for Climate Change Studies (CCCS) is an interdisciplinary research center that focuses on

Job Opening for an Accounts Officer at the University of Dar es Salaam

For the Center, the Accounts Officer will deliver efficient and effective financial services. Concerning daily operations, the Accounts Officer reports to the Coordinator, Centre for Climate Change Studies.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • to oversee the CCCSโ€™s finances and reporting, which includes gathering receipts for the centerโ€™s activities and travel funds;
  • creating accurate books of accounts and the monthly bank reconciliation statements for the Center;
  • to balance the ledger transactions, debtors, and creditors for the Center;
  • financial statements to be prepared;
  • daily preparation of payment vouchers;
  • CCCS payments must be acknowledged by issuing receipts for CCCS receivable.
  • to keep a record of the activity related to accounts;
  • Register and make sure it is current in order to preserve fixed assets;
  • to keep track of retirements and Staff Imprest;
  • to create numerous payment schedules, including those for student grants, checks, etc.;
  • keep ledgers and a spreadsheet up to date, and make sure money is spent in accordance with the CCCS budget;
  • participate in the annual planning meeting, budget preparation, and budget maintenance;
  • Create and produce financial reports for ad hoc, monthly, and annual reporting;
  • Ensure that financial procedures and controls are established and adhere to the universityโ€™s financial rules, guidelines, and procedures;
  • to guarantee that all statutory deductions are paid as required by law;
  • Process invoices, follow up on various money requests, and make timely payments to consultants and contactors; and
  • carrying out any additional tasks that the Immediate Supervisor may designate.

Qualifications:

  • possess a degree in accounting, finance, commerce, business administration, or any other comparable discipline from a recognized institution;
  • A minimum of four yearsโ€™ worth of work experience in a comparable field;
  • First degree in accounting with a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a reputable university will be advantageous;
  • working knowledge of several accounting and financial management programs;
  • possess effective speaking, editing, and writing skills;
  • mastery of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
  • Ability to work well in a team, take on detailed tasks, and solve issues creatively;
  • professional work ethics, such as the capacity to do several duties with little supervision, be accurate, efficient, and thorough, and perform well under pressure;
  • excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities; and

Duration of the Assignment: One -year renewable contract depending on
