The Department of Higher Education and Training NESP Scholarship Programme for South Africans 2023.

The NESP (National Employment Service Program) is a government initiative in South Africa aimed at creating job opportunities and reducing unemployment. The program focuses on providing training and skills development opportunities for individuals, as well as connecting job seekers with potential employers. It also includes programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and encourage entrepreneurship. The NESP is a critical component of South Africaโ€™s efforts to address high unemployment rates and create a more equitable economy. (The Department of Higher Education )

The Nurturing Emerging Scholars Programme

The Department of Higher Education (DHET) established NESP to aid in the retention of highly trained professionals in the academy and to drive transformation.

NESP seeks postgraduate students with shown academic talent who are interested in pursuing an academic career and offers them an appealing, structured study and development program to prepare them for a career in academia. (The Department of Higher Education )

This three-year program consists of a two-year full-time Masters scholarship at any South African university, followed by a one-year academic internship at the recruiting institution.

Nelson Mandela Universityโ€™s NESP positions are connected with its strategic disciplinary areas as well as priorities in the Higher Education Section. Each year, these possibilities are publicized both nationally and within the University, with some chances available in collaboration with collaborating French universities.

In addition to financial support for full-time Masters studies, successful candidates are also:

  • They will be mentored for the duration of their participation in the program.
  • provided exposure through support for a potential foreign mobility experience;
  • offered the capacity to strengthen their research and teaching abilities during the internship year.

Applicants must also meet the following criteria in addition to the standards provided by the recruiting University:

  • Demonstrate an interest in becoming an academic;
  • You must be 35 years old or younger.
  • Be a South African national;
  • A minimum average of 65% in a suitable Level 8 qualification, such as an Honours degree;
  • Show proof of eligibility to pursue postgraduate study at the Masters level;
  • Be dedicated to spending the entire three years of the program at the recruiting university (2 years of studying at any University followed by the 1-year internship at the recruiting University).

The programโ€™s countrywide implementation is being carried out in collaboration with Rhodes University. Advertisements are placed in national newspapers and other electronic platforms in May/June of each year for the following academic year. All applications will be submitted to the implementing partner, who will screen them for eligibility before forwarding them to the University for review and final offers.

The following two opportunities are available
Opportunity 1
